The NC State women’s basketball team will host the UNC-Chapel Hill Tar Heels in a highly anticipated matchup this Sunday at 6 p.m.
The Wolfpack (18-1, 7-1 ACC) will be returning home after dominating against Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania earlier this week. With a relatively close 38-30 score at the half, the Pack outscored Pitt 50-14 in the last two quarters to secure the 88-44 win.
In a commanding third quarter, the Pack outscored Pitt 30-4 while shooting 10 for 15 from the field, including five 3-pointers.
10 different players recorded points for the Pack, including freshman wing Jakia Brown-Turner with 13 and sophomore center Elissa Cunane with 12 of her own, including eight rebounds.
UNC is coming off a 67-60 overtime win at Georgia Tech. This will be the second matchup between the Wolfpack and the Heels (14-3, 5-3 ACC) this season. Earlier this month, North Carolina served the Pack its only loss so far this year.
In that game, the Pack started strong but wasn’t able to control UNC’s momentum in the second half. Relying heavily on senior guard Aislinn Konig who recorded 25 points, Brown-Turner who had 12 and junior forward Kalya Jones who had 10, the Pack lost its winning streak for the second consecutive year against the Heels.
A large presence on the court for Carolina this season has been junior center Janelle Bailey, who averages 15.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game and dropped 20 points and 11 rebounds in the recent win over Georgia Tech.
Another force to be reckoned with is senior guard Taylor Koenen, who averages 14.1 points per game. She was the second-leading scorer for the Heels in their last matchup against the Pack with 14 points.
NC State will have to build momentum early and continue scoring throughout the entire game in order to have a chance at winning.
The game will tip off on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m and be aired on the ACC network. Follow @TechSports on Twitter for live updates.
