The saga of the FBI’s investigation into corruption in college basketball, and the involvement of former NC State point guard Dennis Smith Jr. continues.
“NC State’s Office of General Counsel received a Grand Jury subpoena for records from the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on January 17, 2018,” NC State athletics spokesman Fred Demarest said in a text message to Technician Friday evening.
The contents of that subpoena are confidential.
It is unclear at this point if this is directly tied to an ongoing FBI investigation into corruption in college basketball, with a report from Yahoo Sports last month saying Smith Jr. received money from former NBA agent Andy Miller and his agency, ASM, while he was still an amateur.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
