Junior shooter Caitlyn Ford looks through her sights in the Wolfpack's rifle meet against North Georgia on Jan 29. Ford tied with graduate student and teammate Lauren Phillips for the top individual score of the smallbore competition with a 578 clip in the 4657-4547 win at Reynolds Coliseum.
The NC State rifle team had one participant at the NCAA Championships in graduate student Lauren Phillips.
Phillips has had a stellar campaign in her final year of collegiate eligibility, and concluded her career with a strong 12th-place finish in the smallbore competition inside McAlister Field House at The Citadel on Friday.
Phillips, a Seabeck, Washington native, recorded a score of 582 which was just two points shy of advancing to the finals session.
In her first series she fired a 98 and a 97 in her second series, the kneeling position. In prone, she notched 98 and 99, respectively, then closed out with a 94 and 96 in the standing position.
She received incredible accolades in her final season at NC State. She was named to the second team All-GARC selection in the small bore, plus an honor in the air rifle. Last year she claimed the GARC Championship in the small bore.
Phillips completes her collegiate career as a four-time All-American and an eight-time all-conference selection.
As a team, the Wolfpack concluded the 2017-18 season at 11-7 overall, just missing the NCAAs as a team.
