Carolina Hurricanes majority owner, Tom Dundon, answers questions about the season and plans for next season during the Exit Interviews in PNC Arena, Monday, April, 9. Reflecting on the season, Dundon said, "I think we can do a better job of identifying players and figuring out where under- and over-valued assets exist. I think we're doing a pretty good job of it. We just need to do better."
For the first time in arguably nine years, the Carolina Hurricanes have had a bounce go their way. And it’s a rather big one. The Canes won one of the NHL’s three draft lotteries and will pick second in the first round, moving up from pick No. 11.
This will be the highest the Hurricanes have picked since drafting former captain Eric Staal second overall in 2003. Going into the lottery, the Canes had a 9.9 percent chance to move into the top three and a 3.0 percent chance to win the first overall pick.
Sportsnet currently ranks Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, Russian forward Andrei Svechnikov and Czech forward Filip Zadina as the top three prospects.
This is the latest development in what is shaping up to be a busy offseason for Carolina, as majority owner Tom Dundon’s search for both a new general manager and head coach continues. The NHL draft’s first round is scheduled for Friday June 22 at American Airlines center in Dallas.
