As of this week, a new website aimed to make college class registration and organization easier is available to NC State students.
Coursicle is an online website that helps college students with class registration for their school. Joe Puccio, co-founder of the company, initially came up with the idea in 2012 during his first year at UNC-Chapel Hill when he was organizing his class schedule. Coursicle was officially founded in 2016 by Puccio and his co-founder Tara Aida.
“When I was an incoming freshman at UNC, I spent like seven hours trying to plan my class schedule,” Puccio said. “Then finally, when I went to register for the classes, I got into one of the five that I needed to take. That night I started working on a program that would text me when a class I wanted had an open seat.”
Puccio said that Coursicle allows students to easily make multiple mock schedules and search for classes at a faster rate. The website also allows for students to see other students who are planning to take the same classes.
“You also can log in with Facebook and see what classes your friends are considering taking in real time,” Puccio said. “That’s one of the features that we have that almost no other university provides.”
According to Puccio, over 30 NC State students requested that the company be available to the campus. The company uses available public data for a specific school to find classes and put them on the website. Coursicle currently has over 700 schools in its system.
Coursicle is also available as an app on iOS and Android devices that notifies students when a class they want to take has an open seat available. The website is free to use to plan schedules.
“For the website, for schedule planning it’s 100 percent free so students can plan class schedules,” Puccio said. “There’s no charge, not even any advertising on the schedule planner – [it’s] completely free to use. [With] the app, students can track one class for free at a time or they can pay $4.99 to track unlimited classes in that semester.”
Interested students can access Coursicle through its website.
