How would you describe your music?
Vignettes. Soundtracks for what feel like memories, rooted in a lot of nostalgia and emotion. Genre-wise, though, I think it hovers around experimental, sample-based hip-hop, electronica and ambient. I’m influenced a lot by Flying Lotus, Madlib, Shlohmo and the Neptunes.
How did you get involved with Moogfest?
I put out my last album, “Inferior Goods,” through the Raund Haus label and played a few shows with their crew. They actually hooked me up with the Moogfest gig.
What are your past experiences with the festival?
I went for the first time last year! I got to see Flylo which was crazy. I’ve wanted to see him live since I was 12. I got to watch a handful of my favorite stones’-throw artists play too, and Hannibal Buress do an impromptu live podcast with Flylo, which was hilarious. A lot of really talented and knowledgeable people come through to that festival and everyone’s a music nerd in some way.
Are you attending the festival as a guest too? If so, what are you most excited for and why?
Yeah! I’m very excited to see Shabazz Palaces, Kelela, J Rocc, Madame Gandhi, Fatima al Qadari, Suicideyear, KRS-One, Trandle and Oak City Slums. It’s going to be good.
