As the FBI probe of college basketball continues, NC State and former point guard Dennis Smith Jr. recently resurfaced regarding past allocations.
In a federal court in New York Tuesday morning, Adidas executive Jim Gatto’s attorney, Casey Donnelly, confirmed a $40,000 payment to Smith’s family from Gatto so he would commit to play at NC State. This story was first reported by Dan Wetzel of Yahoo.
NC State was not the only school brought up on Tuesday. The attorney also said that Under Armour tried to pay players as well. This included Nassir Little, who was offered $150,000 to sign with Arizona. Gatto reportedly matched that offer for him to play at Miami, but Little is now a freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill.
As this event continues to be investigated, NC State could be open to sanctions from the NCAA for violation of recruiting rules.
