A new development has surfaced in the federal college basketball trial as it pertains to NC State’s recruiting of Dennis Smith Jr. Thursday.

According to a tweet from Yahoo Sports columnist Dan Wetzel,  former Adidas consultant TJ Gassnola, who many are referring to as the Adidas “bag man” testified that he flew to Raleigh in November 2015 and delivered $40,000 cash to former NC State assistant coach Orlando Early, who then gave it to Smith’s family. Gassnola said Early had asked for his help in recruiting Smith.

This comes a day after Carrie Doyle, NC State’s senior associate athletics director of compliance testified with memos about former NC State men’s basketball head coach Mark Gottfried.

Allegations that Adidas paid Smith Jr.’s family for him to attend NC State surfaced months ago as part of an FBI investigation into college basketball.
