NC State experienced a short power outage on Friday, Dec. 21, leading to closures of Witherspoon Student Center, Talley Student Union and part of Dan Allen Drive.
Around 1 p.m., the NC State Union tweeted that there was a power outage on campus. Soon after, a WolfAlert was sent out notifying students that Dan Allen Drive would be closed around Yarborough Dr.
Allen Boyette, senior director of NC State’s facilities division, explained that the power outage was resolved within two hours. He said that this was an issue with electrical distribution, which is the final stage in delivery of electricity, involving carrying power from central locations to individual buildings and consumers.
According to Boyette, the area of Dan Allen Dr. closed for repairs is a sort of hub for the electrical grid on campus.
“There’s underground electrical feeds on campus, so that’s where the issue was, so that’s where they were working to make the repair,” Boynette said.
Power was restored by 3 p.m., and Dan Allen was reopened around the same time.
