On Wednesday, Nov. 28, Chancellor Randy Woodson announced that NC State’s newest vice chancellor and general counsel will be Allison B. Newhart.
The position of general counsel is essentially NC State’s chief attorney. The role involves advising university leaders on legal matters, including ethics, employment law, student affairs, athletics and much more.
Newhart worked as associate general counsel at Pennsylvania State University since February 2013, with a focus on employment and higher education. Prior to that, she was an associate with Saul Ewing LLP, a Philadelphia law firm, where she was involved with matters such as risk management.
Newhart will be replacing Robert Hoon, the current interim vice chancellor and general counsel on Feb. 1. Hoon has been working since Sept. 1.
