What a pity children from the Miracle League of the Triangle and their parents had to experience firsthand the ineptitude of NC State’s architecture. They all arrived to watch at least the first game of the softball doubleheader on Saturday, but there was no shade, anywhere. All the families left by the third inning. It was simply too hot for the children confined to wheelchairs and with special needs.
NC State has made a habit of constructing elaborate athletic fields and viewing stands that offer fans no shade. It’s even worse during the soccer season: During an early September game, temperatures can climb above 85 degrees, aided and abetted by hot stone and metal. When will anybody at the softball field, the soccer field and numerous other venues get the message?
