Thankfully, President Barack Obama took the Southeast Atlantic coast off of the drilling plan. We need to use this victory for the environment as momentum to encourage other sources of energy in North Carolina, specifically solar. Solar energy is great for North Carolina for many reasons, and we should harness that power. Obviously the representatives from North Carolina did not do well in representing what the people really wanted — our representation in D.C. was in support of offshore drilling off of our coast, but the overwhelming opposition we showed the president caused him to understand that we did not support our lawmakers’ decisions about this issue.
In North Carolina, lawmakers are making it extremely difficult for solar energy to reach its full potential in our state. As we saw from offshore drilling issue, lawmakers aren’t listening to what the people truly want. We need to tell our representatives what we want by calling them, writing letters, doing anything it takes to let them know that we want solar power in North Carolina.
