Many students have now returned from break with a bounty of Easter candy in tow. Even if you don’t celebrate Easter, everyone can take advantage of the Easter candy on clearance. Instead of just inhaling your sweets by the handful, you can incorporate the leftover candy into your favorite desserts. Here’s a recipe and a few easy ideas.
Bunny Chow
In this spring version of puppy chow, the dessert mix is lighter than the original, using white chocolate. It’s a fairly easy recipe and can be made with only a microwave.
5 cups rice Chex cereal
4 cups kettle corn
2 cups plain M&M’s
12 ounces white melting chocolate
Directions:
Mix the kettle corn and Chex cereal together in a bowl. Melt the white chocolate and pour onto the kettle corn and Chex. Add the M&M’s to the bowl and stir carefully. Spread mixture on a large nonstick surface and allow to cool for about 15 minutes. Cut into serving pieces and enjoy!
Peeps s’mores
You either love or hate Peeps. Regardless of your stance, consider using Peeps in your s’mores. If you do not have access to a campfire, a microwave can work as a stand-in.
Cadbury egg milkshake
This is not for the faint of heart. Cadbury eggs are the heavy hitters of the Easter basket. Combining them with a milkshake is a lot of sugar at once. The cream blends well with ice cream if you like sugary sweet treats.
Seven-layer bars: Easter edition
Jazz up your seven-layer bars with some pastels. Substituting the chocolate with M&M’s and robin eggs is a great use of the Easter candy. If you’re really feeling festive, you can melt peeps on top for a marshmallow layer.
Easter surplus brownies
Despite popular belief, the best special brownies on campus are filled with leftover Easter candy. After mixing up a batch of brownie batter, add any chocolate-based candy for a more colorful and crunchy treat.
