The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department punished five deputies in connection with the Donald Trump rally in Fayetteville March 9 that resulted in the assault of Rakeem Jones, a protester at the rally who was being escorted out by officers when he was punched repeatedly in the face by a rally attendee. Cumberland County Sheriff Earl “Moose” Butler told ABC 11 that three deputies were demoted in rank and suspended for five days without pay. The other two deputies were suspended for three days without pay. All of the deputies were reprimanded on the account of “unsatisfactory performance” and “failure to discharge their duties.”
