Sophomore forward Abdul-Malik Abu of the NC State men’s basketball team will declare for the 2016 NBA Draft, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.
Joe Giglio of the News & Observer reports that NC State has confirmed Abu will enter the Draft.
However, according to the report, Abu will not hire an agent.
Back in January, the NCAA altered the rules about the deadline for men’s basketball student athletes to declare for the draft. The rule change allows players to declare for the draft and “test the waters” by attending the draft combine and private workouts without forgoing their amateur status. This allows players to hear feedback about their draft stock from NBA scouts before making a final decision about their future.
Players have until 10 days after the NBA Draft Combine to make a decision. That puts this year’s deadline on May 25.
The news comes in the wake of Cat Barber’s decision to declare for the draft along with the announcement that Cody and Caleb Martin will transfer from NC State.
