North Carolina Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry will face a challenger in the November election — Democrat Charles Meeker. Meeker, who served 10 years as mayor of Raleigh, announced Wednesday that if elected, he would replace the photos of Berry posted in every elevator she has certified with a picture of workers who do the certifying. Meeker also said he would add more information about how to report employment-related problems. Meeker called Berry’s photo in every elevator an act of “self-promotion by a career politician.” Meeker will have a primary race against Mazie Ferguson March 15.
