This weekend there will be a great opportunity for the students of NC State to have fun, get some exercise, build community pride and most importantly help kids in the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. It is hard to understand why anyone would take issue with such a beneficial event, but apparently some people do not understand the value in the Krispy Kreme Challenge.
One of the benefits of the Krispy Kreme Challenge that attracts many NC State students as well as people from the Raleigh area is that the event is just a lot of fun. Everyone who has participated in the challenge knows that it is quite an interesting experience. What makes the challenge so fun is that it allows you to make it your own. You can run the race very casually if you want. Lots of people like to dress up in all kinds of costumes that make the race even more enjoyable. Other people like to run the race as a very serious event and try to make a great time. A lot of people worry about completing the doughnut part of the challenge but you are not required to even attempt to eat all the doughnuts unless you want to. You can also do the challenge on your own or within a group based on your preference. There are a lot of ways to make the challenge your own and that’s why a lot of people have fun with it.
Another benefit of the challenge is that it motivates a lot of people to exercise. Speaking from experience, it can be difficult to get motivated to actually get physically active, so events like the Krispy Kreme Challenge that are really fun events are a lot more motivating to actually get moving. It could be argued that the doughnut portion of the challenge is ironically unhealthy, but again you are not required to eat all of the doughnuts or any doughnuts at all, and many people do only participate in the run.
The Krispy Kreme Challenge also helps to build community pride, both for the NC State community and for the whole Raleigh area. When members of our community come together, motivated by a particular goal, and participate in an event that benefits the community, it makes everyone in the community feel connected and it builds the community spirit. This is exactly what the Krispy Kreme Challenge does for our community. Everyone who runs the race is participating in a great cause and that makes them feel more connected to the other members of the community.
The most important benefit that the Krispy Kreme Challenge has to offer is the charitable aspect of the challenge. This, of course, is the selling point of the challenge; all of the proceeds from the Krispy Kreme Challenge go to the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. This is obviously an undisputable noble goal and an effort that has greatly benefited the North Carolina Children’s hospital for years. So far, the Krispy Kreme Challenge has donated a cumulative $954,000, according to the Krispy Kreme Challenge website. When this charitable goal is combined with the fun, health-encouraging and community-building aspects of the challenge, it is hard to deny the benefit of the Krispy Kreme Challenge.
