A freight train derailed Sunday morning in downtown Raleigh around 11:30. According to Raleigh Police, the event was minor. No injuries have been reported.
The derailment took place near 508 W. Jones Street, according to WRAL. A single freight car derailed off of a Norfolk Southern train prompting several road closures.
Parts of Jones Street and Hargett Street are blocked off as the investigation of the scene is conducted and the trained is moved, according to ABC 11.
Officials say a mechanical malfunction caused the accident, according to Time Warner Cable News.
Norfolk Southern, the company responsible for the train, is investigating to determine the reason for the derailment according to WNCN.
