With Election Day only a few days away, we have all seen one too many political ads telling us who to vote for, yet these ads never explain the full story of the candidates. The problem with these ads is that they make all of us disinterested in thinking about politics, let alone learning candidates’ stances on the issues.
As I have watched our governor being attacked through this cycle, I have noticed that so many of his accomplishments have been overlooked and ignored. So, as we begin early voting, I wanted to point out a couple of things that Gov. Pat McCrory has done for all of us and our beloved NC State.
First, to all of you engineering students out there, there is definite cause for celebration, because of the Connect NC Bond championed by Governor McCrory, $75,000,000 was allotted to the engineering department for the new engineering buildings. Likewise, $85,000,000 was allotted to NC State via the bond for the Plant Sciences Building and Ag/NCSU Partnership here at State.
Governor McCrory also signed a bill that will freeze tuition rates for all four years while you attend school. For example, when a freshman arrives on campus in 2017, they will pay the same tuition rate for four years. This is a great way to attract more students to our pack. Governor McCrory also made sure that student fees could not be raised by more than a certain percentage per year. Just think how much good an extra two or three hundred dollars could do for your wallet, or save you in student loans. This new policy will allow many more students the ability to afford a college education while giving us all the comfort of knowing what our e-bill will look like for four years here at our lovely NC State so that we can make this place a home and not a money pit.
Don’t get lost in all of the propaganda when you go out to vote. Vote to keep public college affordable and make a higher education possible for those who that never even dreamed it. Vote for Gov. Pat McCrory.
