After the Duke Energy coal ash spill in 2014, where nearly 40,000 tons of toxic coal ash contaminated the Dan River, the NC Department of Environmental Quality classified many other coal ash sites around the state as high or intermediate risk to our health. All of these coal ash sites need to be cleaned up because they are damaging our drinking water.
Many families do not have access to clean water and are relying on bottled water to drink, clean and bathe in. I urge Gov. Pat McCrory to protect the people of North Carolina over the polluters. We cannot let Duke Energy continue to pollute North Carolinians drinking water because they are leaking hazardous chemicals into many citizens well water.
