As phase two of the Hillsborough Street Renewal Project continues, more traffic delays and closures are expected this week, but businesses in the area will remain accessible.
The Wolfline routes 2 and 6 are experiencing detours through Thursday. The route 6 stop at Rosemary Street and Sheperd Street will not be serviced during this time.
Parts of Hillsborough Street will be closed until Thursday, as Duke Energy is performing “transmission work” related to the project, according to a release from the city of Raleigh.
An excerpt from the release read:
“Hillsborough Street will first be closed between Brooks Avenue and Dan Allen Drive from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Later in the week, crews will move to the section of Hillsborough Street from Daisy Street to Shepherd Street, which also will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Westbound traffic will be detoured to Brooks Avenue, Wade Avenue, Faircloth Street and back to Hillsborough Street. Motorists traveling eastbound will be detoured to Faircloth Street, Wade Avenue, Brooks Avenue and back to Hillsborough Street. Motorists are urged to follow the detour routes and stay off side streets as those streets are not designed to handle heavy traffic.”
The project dates back to 2013, with the second phase beginning in June of this year. The first phase brought in $300 million of commercial investments to Hillsborough Street, according to Chancellor Randy Woodson, who spoke at an event for the project in June.
The current phase is working toward raising medians, marking bike lanes and adding street trees and a rain garden.
The second phase is expected to finish in fall 2017. More information about the construction schedule is available on the Hillsborough Street Renewal Project’s website.
