The NC State football team announced that it will head to Shreveport, Louisiana for the Independence Bowl Dec. 26 at 5 p.m. to play Vanderbilt after earning bowl eligibility for the third-straight season under head coach Dave Doeren.
With the Vanderbilt matchup announced, NC State faces its third SEC opponent in its last four bowl appearances. Ironically, Vanderbilt was the first team of this streak, as the Wolfpack lost to the Commodores 38-24 in the 2012 Music City Bowl. Last season, NC State played in the Belk Bowl, but came up short against Mississippi State, 51-28. In 2014, the Wolfpack beat Central Florida in the Bitcoin Bowl, 34-27.
Meanwhile, Vanderbilt’s record was identical to the Pack’s, going 6-6 (3-5 SEC), while the Wolfpack went 6-6 (3-5 ACC) and matched its conference record from each of the last three years. The Commodores’ most impressive wins came against Tennessee and Georgia, while the Wolfpack earned signature victories against UNC-Chapel Hill and Wake Forest.
