Students have the opportunity to sit in the director’s chair with the upcoming Outhouse Film Festival next week, which gives students an opportunity to show their own films run during the Cinema Club’s two day festival. Today is the deadline for students to submit movies for the festival.
Founded six years ago, the Cinema Club caters to students interested in film making.
“The Cinema Club encourages and supports hopeful filmmakers and provides them with a venue to showcase their projects,” Matt Dolney, the director of Public Relations for the Cinema Club, said.
Dolney, business management senior, said the Cinema Club uses the film festival to provide an outlet for local, regional, and international filmmakers.
The festival will be held from Friday, April 8 to Sunday, April 10 in the Union Colonnade Theater.
Beth Button, the Cinema Club’s Vice President and a mass communication senior, said around 600 people came to the festival last year, which ran 40 films in two days.
Dolney said students submitted a variety of movies to last year’s festival. Dolney said films include narrative films — such as action, drama, or comedy — documentaries and experimental films including music videos and cinematographic experimentation.
Mark Landry’s movie, “AutonomousLESs,” won the Golden Outhouse Award for Best Picture last year. Silver winners included “Hunting Humans,” “Man of the Hour,” “Silent Movie: Scantrons” and “Everything is Everything.”
