Plans are underway to change the flow of traffic on the campus’east side.
The University and city-parish announced Sept. 2 plans torealign part of East Parker Drive to create a safer, more efficientintersection.
Gary Graham, director of Parking, Traffic and Transportation forthe University, said the city-parish will realign East Parker Drivebetween Highland Road and South Stadium Road to intersect directlywith West Lakeshore Drive near the Miller residence hall.
“It will make the area safer because right now, you have twooffset intersections,” Graham said about how East Parker Drive andWest Lakeshore Drive intersect with South Stadium Drive.
Graham said after the realignment, drivers wanting to get fromthe Student Recreational Center to Highland Road or from EastParker Drive to Sorority Row will not have to make a left turn, asituation which has caused traffic backups in the area.
Graham said he does not know of any plans to install a trafficlight at the new intersection.
