The fourth floor of Kirby Smith Hall was evacuated Thursdayafter a plastic bottle containing mixed chemicals exploded.
Police responded to reports of a popping noise and the smell ofchlorine at 11:15 p.m, when they found the exploded plastic bottle, said LSUPD Maj. Ricky Adams. One resident was treated for injuriesfrom fume inhalation, Adams said.
Three students have been identified with involvement in theexplosion, Adams said. Although the students have not been chargedwith a crime, they have been turned over to the Dean of Studentsand Residential Life for disciplinary action, Adams said.
Residents on the fourth floor were allowed to return to theirrooms after officials declared the scene safe, Adams said.
“I think it was a water bottle with bleach and water thatwas ignited that started everything,” Jared Fugate, alandscape architecture freshman, said.
The incident also created a lot of hassle for the residents ofother floors, Fugate said.
“The elevator couldn’t stop on the fourth floor allnight. It was noisy and all the guys from the fourth floor werecrowded in the lobby in their boxers,” Fugate said.
Fugate said he and other residents were angry at theinstigators.
“The minority of students think it’s funny andamusing, but the majority is not entertained. I thought we were incollege, not seventh grade,” Fugate said.
No other damages have been reported, Adams said. ResidentialLife declined to comment.
