Junior forward Donavan Phillip slides after scoring his 4th goal during the game against William & Mary University at Dail Soccer Field on Tuesday, Sep. 16, 2025. Phillip scored four goals in 28 minutes. NC State beat W&M 7-0.
No. 2 NC State men’s soccer remains undefeated after a 2-0 road win against Boston College, securing another shutout victory.
The Wolfpack (7-0-1, 1-0-1 ACC) came out aggressively in the first half, taking nine shots against the Eagles (4-4, 1-2 ACC). During the 29th minute, a header from junior forward Donavan Phillip reached the back of the net and put the Pack up 1-0. This marked Phillips’ 11th goal of the season, in which he has already recorded two hat tricks.
NC State was constantly on the attack in the first half, as seen in the ratio of corner kicks, with the Pack taking 11 while holding the Eagles to zero.
The second half got off to an opposite start for NC State, with Boston College taking four shots in the first 10 minutes of the half. Three of those were shots on goal and very close calls for the Pack. In the 70th minute, Phillip got his 12th goal of the year off a rebound header, putting State up 2-0. After a strong defensive performance for the rest of the game, the score at the final whistle was 2-0 Wolfpack.
Phillip has thrived this year with the Pack, leading Division I soccer in goals. With NC State’s regular season halfway through and the program season goal record being 29, the electric forward still has a ways to go.
With the way the Pack had been playing to start the season, the staunch defensive performance is no surprise. The Eagles were limited to zero shots throughout the first half, with the shutout continuing the streak for the Pack of not allowing a single goal through eight games — a big factor in the Pack’s No. 2 ranking.
NC State is one of three schools that have not yet allowed a goal, and the only Power Four school to boast this feat. But the Pack has two games on both squads, with Portland and Utah Valley having played just six games.
Through its first eight games of the season, the red-and-white now has a point differential of 25 — another stat at the top of Division I. The Pack will get another week off before its next matchup, and as No. 1 Wake Forest and UNCW tied 3-3, NC State has a real shot at being ranked as the top team in the nation for this upcoming week.
The Wolfpack’s next game will be played on Friday, Sept. 2,6 on the road against the Pittsburgh Panthers. The game is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
