In college, Halloween costumes tend to center around corsets, bombshell blonde wigs and skirts that make you say, “Is that allowed?” While this can be fun and great for your feed, Halloween 2025 has brought a rapid shift toward a new costume trend which draws inspiration from meme culture and a desire to be as chaotic as humanly possible.
If you’re sick of repeating the same animal ears and cocktail dress combo, or if your partner’s mom follows your Instagram, these costumes are for you.
Labubu
A morph suit. A furry hood with ears. This two-item costume is sure to wow — or mentally scar — everyone at the function. If you’re going to be out in the cold on Halloween, it’s the perfect way to keep your head warm while looking trendy and flexing your absurd screentime.
Early 2000s Barbie Movie Sidekicks
If you’re looking for something pretty recognizable, at least for those with taste, this one is for you. There’s no better way to pay homage to the unhinged animal sidekicks that tied together the golden-era of Barbie films than with a crazy costume. The wide range of animals and unidentified creatures that make up the roster of Barbie sidekicks means there’s something for everyone.
Otto, the villainous weasel from “Barbie as Rapunzel” has been trending recently for his sassy attitude and undying loyalty to the main antagonist of the film, Gothel. This can also be a great couples costume if your man is obsessed with you.
Laverna’s fungi henchmen from “Barbie: Fairytopia” is another great duo costume, and works well for besties who are a little directionally challenged. Bibble, who is also from “Barbie: Fairytopia,” is a costume well-suited for someone fully committed to the bit, as it will require a lot of body paint, fur and voice acting.
Or, if you’re looking to cause absolute chaos, opt for Tika from “Barbie as the Island Princess.”
Insurance Spokesperson or Mascot
Forget the Marvel Universe, the only thing we’re interested in seeing this Halloween is the vast “Insurance Ad Universe.” From the Geico Gecko to Jake from State Farm, there’s no shortage of inspiration that comes from the fascinating world of insurance sales.
For a cute duo costume, consider being Flo and Jamie from Progressive or Limu Emu and Doug from Liberty Mutual. For those with a big group, you can pull from various insurance universes to create your very own “Insurance Ad-vengers: Endgame.”
Anything With a Bald Cap
Trade your bombshell blonde wigs in for the true showstopper of Halloween 2025: bald caps. For that “average Joe” kind of vibe, try doing Mr. Clean, Pitbull, Gru or Steve Harvey. If you’re looking to go a little bolder, opt for the bald cap and full body paint combo and be Megamind, Shrek or Squidward.
Charlie Brown Sheet Ghost
If you’re looking for a classic spin on hectic girl Halloween, take a page from Charles M. Schulz’s book and “rock” the Charlie Brown sheet ghost look. All you need is your mom’s old bedsheet that she keeps in the back of the linen closet when your uncle comes to visit and some scissors. Bonus points if you can get your partner to go with you as Charlie’s rock.
