Members of Raleigh’s transportation department are crowdsourcing the locations for new bike racks across the city.
Raleigh residents are invited to request bike racks at specific locations using the City’s SeeClickFix app. Requests will be taken through Friday.
To request a bike rack, go to SeeClickFix.com. Select “Report an Issue” and enter your preferred location for a new rack. In the Category drop down menu, select “Pick a Bike Rack Location!” If a request has already been made at this location, hit the “like” button.
Currently, there are requests for a bike rack at Moore Square Parking Deck, with 38 votes; in the Pearson Street area, with 30 votes; and the Blount Street Corridor, with 23 votes. Other requests include a rack near the Flying Saucer and at the intersection of Boylan Street and Morgan Street, each with less than five votes.
According to city officials, residents who wish to see bike racks added to private property such as colleges, libraries, schools and stores should contact the property owner or building manager.
The Raleigh transportation department officials aren’t asking for donations for these bike racks. They’re already funded and will go up next year, according to The News & Observer. But in the future, Raleigh is working on crowdfunding for residents who want fancier bike racks than the city’s standard issue.
