Hundreds of people arrived at Talley Student Union to watch the 13th-annual Art2Wear Friday night, which was moved indoors due to inclement weather.
Thunderstorms forced organizers to move the student show from its originally scheduled site at the Stafford Commons to the Talley Ballroom.
Hosted by the College of Design and the College of Textiles, Art2Wear featured work designed and presented by students. The theme of this year’s show was Accelerated Evolution: Speed.
Justin LeBlanc, an associate professor of art and design who appeared on Project Runway earlier this year, was among the faculty advisors.
Using evolution as an inspiration, student designers created their work, which ranged from clothes to accessories and wearable art.
“I loved all of the designs,” said Bianca Harris, a junior in design studies and Art2Wear model. “Everyone had a different take on the theme and worked really hard.”
Despite the weather, Harris said audience turnout to see the showcase of student designs didn’t appear to be affected.
“The change in place affected how many people could watch the show live and the runway was shorter since the event was moved inside,” Harris said. “But it worked out in the end.”
Art2Wear promotes collaboration among students of all majors with its need for producers, marketers, organizers, models and designers, and this was evident during the show.
Each collection was preceded by student-made animated videos that connected to the theme.
