NC State’s chapter of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity has been suspended following an investigation into allegations of hazing, the university’s director of Greek Life Shelly Dobek told WNCN.

Dobek said the university ceased recognizing the Xi Zeta chapter of Phi Beta Sigma after the national fraternity suspended the chapter “for four years after concluding an investigation into allegations of hazing.” 

A spokesman from NC State told WNCN that Xi Zeta was made up of six members who did not live together in campus-sponsored housing.

Phi Beta Sigma national fraternity executive director Daryl Anderson told WNCN by phone that he was unaware of any investigations or sanctions that would have occurred at NC State, and he would not say whether or not he knew if the chapter was still active. 

Phi Beta Sigma is a historically African-American fraternity with a national headquarters in Washington, D.C.
