The NC State football team lost 30-14 against the Boston College Eagles at Carter-Finley Stadium, the team’s third defeat in a row.
Boston College (4-2, 1-1 ACC) opened the game with a touchdown drive that started from its own 25-yard line, capping it off with a 10-yard rush by freshman back Jon Hilliman.
Down by a score, the Pack (4-3, 0-3 ACC) took over at its own 45 yard-line after an errant kick by BC senior kicker Alex Howell, and redshirt senior Tony Creecy leveled the game with a 2-yard touchdown run.
But Boston College would answer right back, starting on its own 25 and scoring off of a 47-yard TD run by redshirt senior quarterback Tyler Murphy.
The Wolfpack received favorable field position after sophomore running back Matt Dayes took the kickoff 50 yards to the BC 45-yard line. The Wolfpack drove down the field and Brissett found redshirt sophomore David Grinnage for the 16-yard touchdown.
The first quarter ended with BC driving the ball all the way to the Wolfpack 24-yard line before scoring off a reverse by freshman back Sherman Alston.
The Eagles’ special teams woes continued after its scoring drive as Howell squibbed the BC kick, giving the Wolfpack the ball at its own 43. The first punt of the game finally came when the Pack went three-and-out off the kickoff. However, the Pack was able to pin BC within its own 15-yard line.
The Wolfpack defense gained some momentum when redshirt senior Thomas Teal forced a fumble that was recovered by redshirt junior Mike Rose at the BC 15-yard line.
The Pack failed to capitalize, however, as the Eagles’ defense stifled Brissett by forcing two incompletions and another three-and-out. This series led to a 31-yard missed field goal by senior Niklas Sade.
Both teams recorded unsuccessful drives, and the half ended with a missed 51-yard field goal attempt by the Eagles, which led 21-14.
After the second-half kickoff, the Wolfpack received the ball at its own 41-yard line. This drive was cut short however when Brisset threw a pick under heavy pressure, and the Eagles received the ball at their own 10 yard-line.
After a 57-minute rain delay, BC ran three plays before kicking a 28-yard field goal to extend the lead to 24-14.
The Eagles would add to its ten point lead later in the half after Murphy ran a designed draw for a 26-yard touchdown. Following a bad snap on the extra point, the score became 30-14 in favor of Boston College.
A 34-yard Cherry return gave the Wolfpack starting field position at its own own 46, but BC sacked Brissett for the third time and forced a fumble that they recovered at their own 38-yard line.
On the turnover, Boston College gained possession with less than a minute remaining, ending the game 30-14 in favor of the Eagles.
