NC State track and field traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the ACC Indoor Championships Feb. 22-24. Throughout the weekend, the Wolfpack earned seven All-ACC distinctions with two athletes taking home First Team All-ACC honors.
On day one junior Amaris Tyynismaa finished second overall in the 5000m with a time of 15:59.71 for First Team All-ACC. Tyynismaa also earned Second Team All-ACC on day three when she finished fourth in the 3000m with a time of 9:06.44.
The other athlete to earn First Team All-ACC was graduate Sam Bush who finished third in the women’s 3000m, clocking in at 8:59.14. Bush also competed on day one as a member of the women’s distance medley relay team that finished fourth at 10:58.25.
Graduate Jirah Sidberry took fifth place in the women’s long jump, securing Second Team All-ACC honors with a leap of 6.21m. Sidberry was the only competitor to earn All-ACC honors on day two, but sophomore Grace Hartman finished second in the women’s mile prelim to advance to the final round with a time of 4:39.77.
Hartman followed up her second-place performance on day two with a fourth-place finish in the women’s mile final, clocking in at 4:40.33 for Second Team All-ACC. Hartman was also a part of the women’s distance medley relay team that placed fourth on day one.
NC State earned another All-ACC honor on day one of the competition when senior Makala Wright finished sixth in the women’s weight throw with a launch of 19.35m for Second Team All-ACC. This also marked the first All-ACC honor of her career with the Pack.
The final athlete to earn All-ACC honors for the Wolfpack was freshman Jayda Hunter who finished fourth in the women’s triple jump, leaping 12.76m for Second Team All-ACC. This was also the first team Hunter claimed All-ACC honors in her young career.
While they didn’t earn All-ACC honors, the men’s distance medley relay team on day one set a new school record with a time of 9:35.82 to earn a fourth-place finish. This is the second time in two weeks this record has been broken.
To close out day one, senior Jenna Schulz, sophomore Lance Patterson, freshman Jordyn Parker and junior Jakerra Covington all set personal bests in their respective events.
Day two featured another personal record for Parker as she finished the women’s 60 prelim with a time of 7.61. Freshman Quentin Clarke also set a personal best this day in the men’s 400 prelim, clocking in at 48.81.
On day three, two more personal records were set by senior JJ Malach and sophomore Ta’Honny Exum. In the men’s 3000m, Malach posted a time of 8:02.30, and in the women’s shot put, Exum recorded a throw of 14.12m.
With the ACC Indoor Championships behind it, NC State is set to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships March 8-9.
