Gov. Pat McCrory said he will not sign bills that would allow court officials to have religious exemptions from performing certain marriages, particularly same-sex marriages, and give businesses other religious protections. On Monday, McCrory said he would not sign the bill as it currently is written, which offers protection to magistrates and some register of deeds workers to refuse to perform marriages and carry out legal duties based on a “sincerely held religious objection.”
