Obama honored the achievements of young inventors and scientists on Monday at the fifth annual White House Science Fair. Demonstrations the president saw include an algorithm to identify new Ebola drugs and a spinal implant and a new method for securing computers against hackers. The White House announced a $240 million commitment from the government and private businesses and philanthropies to help children succeed in science, technology and math. A group of 6-year-old Girl Scouts created an automatic page turner out of Legos that could help paralyzed or arthritic people who might have trouble turning pages in a book.
