N.C. Commerce Department documents show that Gov. Pat McCrory and the state legislature offered Mercedes-Benz $15.4 million worth of incentives to encourage the company to move its headquarters from New Jersey to the Raleigh area. However, Georgia offered $23 million. This was NC’s latest economic development blow, which last year saw Toyota choose Texas over Charlotte for its North American headquarters. NC is still looking to land a car manufacturing plant to bring high-paying jobs and attract suppliers, and Volvo may be one of them, according to their plans to build a new plant in the U.S.
