Lt. Col. Lauren Edwards is the first woman to lead an engineer support battalion. She took over for Lt. Col. David Morris during a change-of-command ceremony Monday at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. She will lead the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, which provides general engineering support to all units with the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force. When deployed in Iraq as a company commander, she led more than 150 Marines and several vehicles in defensive maneuvers while taking enemy fire.
