The bright and colorful light that streaked across California’s sky Saturday night turned out to be an unarmed missile that was test-fired from a Navy submarine off the coast, officials said. The lack of information regarding the streak of light just after sunset led to a number of panicked calls to police and lit up social media as people posted photos and video of the celestial sight. Launches such as this are conducted on a frequent basis according to Cmdr. Ryan Perry, a Navy spokesperson. Information regarding such tests is classified prior to the launch, Perry said.
