Pack ends regular season in Chapel Hill
After sweeping Maryland in College Park last weekend, the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will make the short drive to Chapel Hill for the final meet of the regular season.
The men’s team, which improved to 5-2 (2-2 ACC) after the win, will face a formidable opponent in UNC. The Tar Heel men are 3-2 (3-0 ACC), making them the lone undefeated team in conference action this year.State’s Stephen Mellor, who is No. 1 in the ACC in the 200-backstroke and 200-IM said the team is using these final meets to prepare themselves to tune up for the upcoming ACC Championships.
“We are just trying to create some momentum with the way we swim and take that into ACC’s,” Mellor said. “We are going to peak come ACC’s and we all know that.”
The women, meanwhile, take a 4-4 (1-3 ACC) record into this weekend’s meet after earning a hard fought victory against the Terrapins. The Tar Heel women own a 3-3 (2-1 ACC) record, which is good enough for fourth place in the ACC. Coach Brooks Teal said he hopes that the women will continue to gain confidence after notching their first victory in the conference.
“I think our women just need to have more confidence in who they are. I am proud of our women’s team and I don’t think they realize how good they can be,” Teal said.
