Headlines that matterSoftball splits opening weekendThe softball team began its season with three wins and two losses in the UCF Tournament. State opened with a 4-3 loss against Kansas on Friday before beating host Central Florida 10-6 later that day.On Saturday, the Pack lost to Illinois State 7-3, then beat Central Arkansas 10-0. Track competes at Tech, New BalanceThe track and field teams were in action Friday and Saturday at the Virginia Tech Elite meet, where Lauren Montgomery was sixth in the 400 meters and sophomore Jason Jones finished third with the highest score of his career in the shot put. Senior Dexter Adams also did well, taking second in the long jump.
Other members of the track and field teams were in New York for the New Balance Collegiate Invite, where Angelina Blackmon finished ninth and senior distance runner Chris Kollar ran a career best of 4:02.76 — the best of any Wolfpacker since 1999. Source: N.C. State Athletics
Men’s tennis drops 2The men’s tennis team traveled to Ann Arbor, Mich., taking on No. 18 Michigan and No. 35 Vanderbilt. State first took on Michigan Friday, losing 6-1. The Pack followed the match with another loss on Saturday, being defeated 5-2 by Vanderbilt.Source: N.C. State Athletics
