Headlines that matterHickson shines in summer leagueIn one of his first outings in a Cleveland Cavaliers uniform, J.J. Hickson put up 26 points and nine rebounds in a 97-94 loss to the New York Knicks on Monday. Hickson, who was selected 18th overall by the Cavaliers in the 2008 NBA Draft, went 11-15 from the field and made seven trips to the free-throw line.
Doughtie takes tournamentWomen’s golfer Lauren Doughtie took home her first Virginia State Golf Association title on Friday, winning the Women’s Amateur Championship at Bayville Golf Club in Virginia Beach, Va. Doughtie, a native of Suffolk, Va. beat Kristen Simpson, of Norfolk, Va. 5-3 in stroke play of the final round of the tournament. The tournament win is another achievement for Doughtie this summer. She has already medaled in three USGA qualifiers and competed in the U.S. Open.Source: N.C. State Athletics
