Rashid Pierre Riboul, a recent graduate in biochemistry who was involved in a traffic accident on Western Boulevard Friday morning remains in WakeMed Health Center as of Tuesday afternoon in good condition.
Riboul, 23, was crossing Western Boulevard at the Avent Ferry intersection at 5:20 a.m. when Latonya Lynnette McKoy, 22, struck him with her car. According to the police report McKoy was traveling 45 miles per hour, the posted speed limit.
According to the report, Riboul traveled 171-feet after impact and came to rest on the opposite side of the intersection. McKoy did not break until after she had struck Riboul and left skid marks after going through the intersection.
According to a witness statement in the report, the traffic and pedestrian lights were working properly at the time of the accident and McKoy had a green light when she struck Riboul.
Jeremiah Kuria, a witness listed on the police report said he never saw Riboul until after McKoy hit him.
“Before he got hit I didn’t see him,” Kuria said. “I heard the boom when he got hit and saw [Riboul] in the air.”
Right after the accident Kuria said he pulled his taxi into the intersection to attempt to stop traffic and check on Riboul.
“I didn’t think it was real bad until I pulled up to stop the traffic,” he said. “I checked [Riboul] and it looked like one of his ribs was broken. The car’s windshield was completely smashed.”
