The air conditioning system in Witherspoon Student Center was cut off Monday and will remain off throughout the day today due to maintenance according to Rick Gardner, associate director of Campus Activities.
Gardner said the shut off was unavoidable due to necessary maintenance on the system compressors.
“We replaced one compressor during the summer and the old compressor went out,” he said. “The building has been running on one compressor for a couple of weeks, and now we have to replace the second compressor.”
Gardner said maintenance had to shut down the entire system to install the new compressor.
“People have definitely been wondering what has been going on since we shut the system off,” he said. “We did try to e-mail everybody that has classes in the building and all the occupants to make sure they knew what was going on.”
Garnder said the system should be up and running by Wednesday morning at the latest.
“Hopefully by tonight, the air conditioning will be on and the building will start cooling down,” Gardner said. “The repair crew told us to be preprared for two days, so it may be off until Wednesday.”
