Nog Run Club veterans greeted each other while newcomers stood by theregistration table eager to sign up. The heavy wooden doors continued toswing and squeak as more and more people filled the Tir Na Nog Irish Pub.
As if food and beer aren’t good incentives already, Stumpf explained therewards for consistently attending the Nog Run Club.
“After three runs you get a “Nog Run Club” running shirt, and after tenruns you receive a gold lettered mug.”
Last night marked the second meeting of the Nog Run Club. Julie Stumpf, apart time worker at Fleet Feet, helped organize the event. “So many peoplerun recreationally,” Stumpf said.
“We have some serious runners, but mostly we attract different groups of runners,” said Stumpf.
The attendees’ skills range from social walkers to joggers to triathletes.
Sophomores Chad Dameron and Brad Belfiore are both avid runners who havecompeted in 5k’s and triathlons. Both were expecting a laid back run, good food after and maybe a beer.
More than 120 people showed up looking for the same. After signing in and filling out a waiver and nametag, runners were divided into run-time groups. Last minute arrivers quickly signed their waivers then bumped their way through the crowd into their appropriate group.
Two, three, five, or six-mile courses which toured a generous amount of downtown Raleigh provided appropriate difficulty levels for all.
With such a large amount of people, the club is considering hosting the event every week. Even if the running aspect of the club becomes less appealing as the colder months approach the Raleigh area, good beer will be plenty an incentive for members to continue to attend. Look out for another event Oct. 6 hosted at Tir Na Nog Irish Pub.
