The second game of tomorrow’s doubleheader at the N.C. State Soccer Stadium will pit the men’s soccer team (1-4-1) against the visiting Panthers of High Point University (3-3-1). The game is slated to be the second game of the season under the lights for the team, starting at 7 p.m. The Wolfpack is currently undefeated at home in night games and hopes to keep this record intact.
“It gives a little more relaxation,” redshirt junior Ronnie Bouemboue said. “We don’t have to worry about the heat and all that. And we have the whole day to think about the game real thoroughly.”
The Pack is trying to turn around the season, but with what seems to be a constantly changing line up it is hard to keep continuity amongst the team. According to coach George Tarantini, the changing line up is due to injuries on the team. Along with these injuries, players wanting to change positions are causing the line up from game to game to have a lack of consistency.
“We have a few players who want to change spots,” Tarantini said. “We will change the line up from what we played at Virginia.”
Though the Wolfpack has had a rough start, they are not writing the season off. The team is keeping a strong mentality and keeping their eyes on the goal of victory.
“It’s been a rough beginning; we’ve had a few bumps here and there,” Bouemboue said. “But I think mentally the team is staying strong; we’re keeping that positive attitude which is important to continue on into the season.”
Bouemboue, the team captain, expects himself to come out and set the team up for success. He said that he has to perform and do the things that made him captain in the first place.
“I think for me I have to focus on producing and try to score some goals,” Bouemboue said. “That is my role; hopefully everything else will take care of itself.”
The Pack is not taking the nonconference Panthers lightly. The team will be treated just like any other team on the schedule.
“I don’t know much about High Point, but the senses from our coaches are they are pretty good,” Bouemboue said. “They are out of conference so that is something that we should take pride [in]. And it’s at home, so we are going to do whatever we can to come out of here with a win. So High Point is just [like] any other team we are going to face this season.” State is entering the match-up tomorrow knowing that the competition is not going to be easy, but with a sense that they are ready to come out and notch the victory.
“We get our mind prepared and we know they are going to come strong and ready to fight, so we have to be ready for that,” junior midfielder Chrystel Bakong said. “Everybody is ready; everybody is set up for the game so I think everybody is willing to give 100 percent.”
