Headlines that matterVega advances in LPGA qualifyingAfter shooting an even-par (288) over four rounds at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., former women’s golfer Bri Vega will advance to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament that will take place at LPGA International in Daytonal Beach, Fla. Vega’s score was good enough to tie for 12th place among a large group of competitors. Only the top 32 golfers from the tournament at Mission Hills advanced to the final qualifier.
Former men’s golfer narrowly misses out on PGA Tour victoryMarc Turnesa, a former member of the men’s golf team, fell to Will MacKenzie on the second playoff hole of the Viking Classic in Madison, Miss. Turnesa went 65, 68, 66 and 70 in four rounds, finishing at 19-uner par. Heading into the 17th hole with the lead, Turnesa shot a double bogey that allowed MacKenzie to force the playoff. The win would have been his first PGA Tour victory.
Men’s tennis pair wins tournamentSenior Christian Welte and junior Frideric Prandecki of the men’s tennis team took down the doubles title at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga. After beating doubles teams from Duke and Central Florida, Welte and Prandecki met Chris Doerr and Tanner Stump of Mississippi State in the final, defeating them 8-4.

Volleyball registration opensVolleyball registration is open this week. Students have until Sept. 29 to register their teams. The manager meeting will be held on October 1 at 5 and 6:30 p.m. in the playzone. Play begins October 13.
