Junior guard Marques Johnson will transfer from the N.C. State basketball team, though his new destination is unknown to the public.
After initially committing to Tennessee, Johnson transferred from the Volunteers to play for the Wolfpack in 2007, but due to NCAA transfer rules, was unable to compete until January of this year. With the injury to then-starting point guard Farnold Degand, Johnson spent time at the point guard position and started six games at the point, averaging 2.0 points and 1.2 assists per game in 21 total games.
Johnson ultimately lost his starting job to sophomore point guard Javi Gonzalez, Johnson has decided to move on.
“Marques felt it would be in his best interest to take advantage of an opportunity somewhere else,” coach Sidney Lowe said in a release from N.C. State Athletics. “He definitely has handled himself with as much class as anybody that I’ve been around since he has been at NC State.”
