Track hours inconvenient
I read today’s viewpoint, and completely agree that the track is not open to the general student body enough. I am the current president of the Cross Country/Track Club here at N.C. State.
For the past several months, any of our members wishing to do any form of track workout have either had to either use the intramural fields, which is a guessing game for distances, or run to a nearby high school in hopes we won’t be run off of their property.
Since our club was founded, we have always practiced at 4:30 in the afternoon. That time has always fallen between most class schedules and night fall, making it the best time of day. With the new track only being open to us 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. on week days and not at all on weekends, a lot of issues are created. I will be looking into the possibility of scheduling time for our club to use the track, but don’t think it would be fair to make a student organization pay to use their own school’s facilities. If any of your readers would be interested, they could join our club and be allowed the benefit of anything we work out with the Athletic Facilities Dept.
