N.C. State’s dreams of going to the College World Series were all but over after just one inning on Sunday. The Wolfpack lost 17-8 to Georgia to end its season and send the Bulldogs to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
Senior starting pitcher Eric Surkamp gave up five earned runs and recorded no outs before being taken out of the game. Sophomore Sam Brown came in and allowed another four runs in the first inning.
The Bulldog offense was simply explosive. They would go on to score an additional six runs, hitting five home runs and putting more runs on the scoreboard than the Pack had allowed all season.
One of the lone bright spots for State was Junior Jeremy Synan, who led the team with three RBIs, two runs, and three hits including a home run.
The loss ends State’s season in the Super Regional round of the NCAA Championships. The Pack finished the year at 42-22 overall.
