Four N.C. State hitters had multiple RBIs en route to a 10-6 Wolfpack victory over Georgia on Saturday. Senior Ryan Pond led the offense with two runs, one hit, two RBI’s and two walks.
The win tied the Super Regional at one game apiece and forced game three, which will occur at 4 p.m. tomorrow to decide who advances to the College World Series.
After junior ace Clayton Shunick dropped the first game of the series on Friday, the Pack’s coaching staff decided to use a combination of freshman Jake Buchanan and redshirt sophomore Alex Sogard on the mound on Saturday. While it was a gamble to hold junior Eric Surkamp for a potential game three, it paid off.
The pair of Buchanan and Sogard held the No.8 seed Bulldogs to just three runs until the ninth inning. Surkamp, who has 86 strikeouts in 73.2 innings and is carrying an ERA of 4.28, will be tomorrow’s starter as the Pack will be attempting to make its first trip to Omaha in 40 years.
