You messed up, Technician! Your brief mention of the N.C. State Dressage Team’s incredible success as champions at a recent competition contained not one,but several embarrassing errors and omissions. On Feb. 26 at Virginia Intermont College, the Dressage Team competed, not the Equestrian Club (the Club consists of the Dressage Team and the Huntseat Team.) Nikki Schweizer is a freshman, not a sophomore (which makes her first place all the more impressive) and competed in Lower Training, not Upper Training. Bette Sumrell competed in Upper Training (not “Higher Training”– that does not even exist!) Most disappointing, you completely failed to mention the third teammate who clinched the win by placing third — Dare Jones! And what about the other teammates — Loralee Howell, Hilary Hartson, Angela Giannetto, Kimberly Carren and Katie Wearden? They all competed that day and are equally as important! As captain of this team, I have seen these girls give their blood, sweat and tears for theWolfpack and still get overlooked by the University. And when we finally do get a brief mention, there are several careless errors and omissions. Shame on you, Technician. Give these girls the recognition and appreciation they deserve.

As an alumnus who has watched NCSU basketball for more than 30 years in good times and bad, I would like to say in response to your recent editorial “We’re sorry to say it” that you got it partially right. You’re just sorry. Sorry excuses for fans, that is. Even if you ignore the fact that this string of five straight NCAA appearances is a school record, whom do you think is RESPONSIBLE for those teams you’ve been bragging about? Who made it possible for you even realistically to DREAM about a conference championship? Oh, and if you’re embarrassed about shooting your big mouths off, try keeping them closed instead of acting like UNC and Duke fans. You have made a laughing stock out of yourselves throughout the conference and are an embarrassment to the University. You owe Coach Sendek AND the team an apology. They’ve had a great year, far beyond preseason expectations. Sincerely, Curtis Small, Ph.D.Class of 1978
Regarding your editorial “We’re sorry to say it:”
Please. All Herb Sendek has done is take a team that, in the mid-’90s, was a bottom-feeding ACC squad and turn it into an annual contender for the ACC title and regular Big Dance participant. NCSU has been to the tournament for [five] straight years. Even in a stacked ACC, only Mike Krzyzewski can make a similar claim. So quit whining and get a reality check. Would you rather have Les Robinson?

Once again Technician, you have shown the entire NCSU campus what a terrible publication you are. Your ignorant view, which is shared by most NCSU fans is not only inaccurate, but classless.
For some reason, this school supports a highly touted and overrated football program and coach that consistently meddles in mediocrity, but refuses to support a coach and program that has been to five straight NCAA tournaments. Losing in the first round is never fun, but how many of you were actually jumping for joy after the football team beat a “quality” team in its “quality” bowl game? What has Chuck Amato done that Herb Sendek hasn’t? If you are going to call Sendek out on his results against rivals and teams that we should beat, then call Amato out as well, after he has lost to a bad Wake Forest team two of the last three seasons and to an even worse North Carolina team the last the seasons.
We are very disappointed in your decision to print the editorial regarding Sendek’s future, but have come to expect nothing more from you. Here’s hoping for a deep NCAA run followed by Sendek promptly telling NCSU and its fans where they can go, before he moves on to a school where he is truly appreciated.
